Farmhouse Bed and Breakfast in Westmeath

Farmhouse Bed and Breakfast in Westmeath

A Naturally Authentic Experience

Built in the early 19th Century, Lough Bishop is a charming Country House nestling peacefully into a south-facing slope overlooking Bishop’s Lough in County Westmeath, Ireland.

Breathtaking scenery in an unspoilt and tranquil setting, amid the rolling farmlands and lakes of Westmeath make Lough Bishop an ideal refuge from the hustle and bustle of modern life. There are family dogs in the background and animals play a large part of life at Lough Bishop House.

Lough Bishop House is a family run business offering Country House Bed & Breakfast accommodation in a wonderful location in the middle of a working organic farm. We even have a purpose built trailer towed behind the quad bike to give guests a tour of the farm and the opportunity to get up close to the animals.

Following extensive renovation this attractive Georgian Country Farmhouse offers its guests luxurious bed and breakfast accommodations, peaceful surroundings and fine home cooked food much of which comes from our own farm, garden and orchard.

Bed & Breakfast

A good night’s sleep is an essential part of any Bed and Breakfast break. At Lough Bishop House, our choice of comfortably furnished bedrooms ensure just that.

We offer our B&B guests a choice of Family, Double or Single Room accommodation. Each room is spacious with fabulous views of the surrounding countryside. All our bedrooms are ensuite with power showers and our Family Room has a bath as well. A Travel Cot is also available free of charge.

Farm

Lambing takes place in April, when there is more grass and the days are longer. The horses too have their foals in April, and calving is split between November and April. There is no nicer sight than groups of animals grazing contentedly in the sunshine.

August is when the meadow is cut to provide fodder for the winter months. We were delighted this year to find wild orchids growing in the meadow. We marked their position in the field and carefully mowed round them leaving them to finish flowering and go to seed!

Environment

Lough Bishop House have developed an environmental policy. Our aim is to ensure that visitors get the opportunity to enjoy the natural environment. We do all that is practically possible to ensure energy, water and the natural environment is managed carefully, and that waste is minimised and recycled where possible. We support the local economy and community by purchasing locally grown food, getting supplies locally and employing local staff.
